Reporting Services 2005 on Windows 2000 server

Hi,

I successfully got SQL 2005 Express with reporting services running under VISTA. Developed some reports in the VISTA environment. However, my target system is a Windows 2000 server. We installed SQL 2005 w/reporting services onto the Windows 2000 server. SQL2005 Database is up and running. Reporting Services are running, IIS RRS virtual directories are built, RRS databases are built. I can do everything except deploy reports from Business Intelligent Studio. I can preview reports, just cannot deploy. The Reporting Services indicate 1 failure in its configuration; the Web Service Identity. It is loaded with <server>\ASPNET. I cannot get rid of this error. I assume this is the problem. After digging around I found that Windows 2000 does not have an ASPNET user, it uses the IWAM user instead. Reporting services did not run at all till I changed the rs config file and put the IWAM user in as <WebServiceAccount>.

Does anyone have Reporting services 2005 running on Windows 2000 server? Anyone know how to fix the Web Service Identity error I am getting?

Thanks

Could you please post the whole error message ?|||

I have the same problem too...

I can't change the value of ASP .NET Service Account in the text box and when I try to apply what is proposed (MACHINENAME\ASPNET - that don't exists), I receive the following error:

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 8007056B

at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)

I hope in a solution ....

Hi Matteo and rodgerst,

Could you, please, connect to your Report Server instance using the config tool, choose Report Server and Report Manager virtual directories tabs, check Apply Default Settings, and then press Apply?

If the previous workaround was not working, could you, please, go to this registry key corresponding to the RS instance:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\Setup

and look for this key: ReportManagerIdentityConfigured. Please change its value to what you want to have for your web service identity (the IWAM user).

I hope it helps. Please let me know how this is working for you.

Hi Mihaela

I've tried the first workaround, close and open RS Config Manager but ....nothing: a red X on web service identity and a locked textbox with the same wrong value.

The value specified in the second workaround don't exists in the registry key, and in entire registry... I've tried to create it, close and reopen Config Manager but .... nothing ....

If can be useful at this link i've saved a screenshot of registry

http://www.matteodistefano.it/public/registrySS.gif

Thanks in advance

Matteo

Matteo,

I see from your screenshot that you have SQL Express Advanced SP1 installed on the Windows 2000 machine, which is your Reporting Services server. I would suggest to try to install SP2 and see if this is working.

Thank you,

Mihaela

|||

Hi Mihaela

Thanks for your answer,

For the moment I can't access directly to it, so I won't risk to install a service pack remotely on a production server.

I'll do it after 6 weeks.

Any other suggestions are appreciate.

Thanks

|||

Tried applying default settings; did not help. Tried regedit; ReportManagerIdentityConfigured is not a key in either MSSQL.1 or MSSQL.2. Should I try adding it to MSSQL.2\Setup?

|||My registry looks like Matteo's snapshot except we are running the Enterprise Evaluation Edition.

Reporting Services

Hi there

Have been using the "vanilla" SQL Express for some time now and feel that I kind of know what I'm doing.

However, I have no idea what can be acheived with the Reporting Services that come with the "advanced" SQL Express.

Can someone please explain what I can do with Reporting Services?

Reporting Services is a web server that allows you to provide a reporting exerience for your database that can be accessed on a web site rather than requring people to open up a specific application. Think about things like summary or rollup reports; there is no need to have everyone install a specialized application, you just create reports and Deploy them to RS and then folks can look at them.

Like any access to SQL, you can use either Windows or SQL Auth, depending on how your SQL Server is configured, and then use that to control access to the data.

RS Express provides some limited Export capability (PDF & XLS) and can only access local, relational data. There is more information in BOL and a whole series of webcasts you can view to learn more at http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/bi/reporting/default.aspx.

reporting services

I have a probleme with visual studio express edition 2005; I couldn't find the server report feature where can I put my reports. Also, many features dont work when I want create an application to access my reports creates whith reporting services.

what to do ?

I'm not sure whether the express edition comes with this, but you want to find a control in the toolbox called Report Viewer.|||Hi Fayoub

The first mistake I made when doing this was not having IIS installed on my local machine.
Have you got IIS installed?

hi,

first, thanks for your interest.

To answer your question I don't have installed IIS,but I have an Apache server

|||I'm afraid that reporting services needs IIS.
You should be able install this from your Win XP CD but based on my experiences you will then probably have to uninstall and reinstall SQl Server express (with advanced services to include reporting services)
|||ok,I heared about Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies

do you think it could be helpful to deploy my reports.Otherwise,I will work on IIS

|||

I have a 64-bit server (Xeon Quad Core) running Windows Server 2003

Standard R2 64-bit. This server is setup as a domain controller, and I

also have Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 running on this same server.

I recently attempted to install SQL Server 2005 Standard on the server.

The disks I have for SQL Server do not specifically say they are the

64-bit version. However during setup, it did say that it was installing

the 64-bit version of the components, with the exception of the

Reporting Services.

I received 1 error during setup which basically said that there was a

problem with Reporting Services registration because I have a 64-bit

version of ASP.NET, and that Reporting Services 32-bit version requires

the 32-bit version of ASP.NET. I have both .NET version 2 and 3

installed, both of which are 64-bit versions.

My question is, how can I install the 64-bit version of Reporting

Services? I am pretty sure the SQL Server 2005 disks I own have both 32

and 64-bit versions on the same disk (because I clearly saw it was

installing 64-bit versions of SQL components, with the exception of the

Reporting Services), although the label on the disks do not specifically

say 64-bit version.

I also realize there is a command that will allow me to run IIS in

32-bit emulation mode and hence allow me to install the 32-bit version

of Reporting Services. However, this mode will not work with Exchange

2007, so using this mode is not an option for me. I must be missing

something here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am not sure if the express edition works with sharepoint.

By default reports are automatically deployed to

standardized secure Windows install images. They told me they had to open up
the security of DCOM but I don't know exactly what they changed.

needed to do was re-install .Net 2.0 framework. I'm not sure if it got
damaged because of the order I installed applications on my computer, but
repairing Framework 2.0 seems to have done the trick.

Reporting service not starting in SQL Express 2005 Advanced

I've installed SQL 2005 Express Advanced edition on an XP SP2 machine which
already had SQL 2005 Express SP1 installed. I followed the instructions on
deleting (moving) all files in the Template Data directory before attempting
the install - in the only instance I had on the computer (MSSQL.1).
After the install, I noticed that there was another instance (MSSQL.2) which
had the Reporting services folders in it. It didn't have any of the folders
found under MSSQL.1 in it. And of course when checking which instance the
reporting services are using under the SQL Server Config Manager, it says
Instance ID 2.
Also under either the SQL Server Config Manager or the Reporting Services
Config Manager it says that the Service Status is stopped and it won't start
using either manager. It gives a timeout error.
Anyone have an idea why? Is it because of the 2 instances? What else can I
check?
Thanks in advance.I think I may have found the problem. I didn't have a local group ASPNET
established. Once I created this local group, the service fired right up.

Reporting Service and SQL Server Express

I can see there is option to Reporting Service when installing SQL Server Express. However, I have heard Reporting Service come with the license of SQL Server. So, can I use Reporting Service with the free-of-charge SQL Server Express?Yes, seems that you downloaded the Advanced Services edition. This includes the Reporting Services engine, with the restritction only to render data from local databases. But you are free to use and restribute it along with your solutions built on top of that.

Also, is that legal to install and use the lastest Reporting Service(version 2005, right?) on server with SQL Server 2000?

Thanks again.

|||Its legal to install SQL Server Express on any Server, but I don′t know if you will be able to consume the data from the SQL Server 2k as the limitation on the site states "Local Server only" which is I assume is only SQL Server Express.

Reporting Service and SQL express 2005

Hello
is there any differences between the reporting service in SQL S 2005 express
and the Enteprise version (I know that the Enteprise version includes the
ReportBuilder).
Thanks
Pascalas far as I know, when using reporting services in SQL server express 2005
you can use only local database as datasource, whereas when using Enterprise
version you can use other datasources ( files, remote databases, ...)

datasources from remote sources (ODBC, OLEDB, dotnet providers for SQL

Reporting like this

I am using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

I have a table whose structure is follows:

Date
EmpID
Code
Amount

Sample data looks like this:

Date EMPID Code Amount

1-Jul-07 1 A1 100
1-Jul-07 1 B1 100
1-Jul-07 2 A1 150
1-Jul-07 3 B1 50
1-Jul-07 4 C1 120
1-Jul-07 4 D1 80
-

The Codes are not fixed, they can be of any number and varies from employee to employee.

I want to show a report like this:

Month: Jul-07 CODES --

EmpID A1 B1 C1 D1

1 100 100 0 0
2 150 0 0 0
3 0 50 0 0
4 0 0 120 80
--

Since Codes are not fixed, so an SQL query is difficult. What is the alternative approach?
I am thinking to create another table at run-time that reads column values (Code names) from the original table and create a field of that name in the next table.

I also want to know in which edition of SQL Server is reporting included. How SQL Server Reporting compares with Crystal Reports?
Secondly, while generating reports from Windows OS on a Dot-Matrix Printer, printing is slow. How can I print at a speed same as in DOS?

To answer the first part of your question:

It's a simple procedure to create a cross-tab report in Reporting Services. The dataset you'll create is nothing more than SELECT * FROM table. Next, add a List control to the form. Set the grouping to =Year(Fields!Date.Value), =Month(Fields!Date.Value) and add a Textbox control to display the month and year of the date field such as:

=Month(Fields!Date.Value) & "-" & Year(Fields!Date.Value)

Next, add a Matrix control inside the List and under the Textbox. Drag the EMPID field from the Datasets window to the Rows area of the Matrix. Drag the Code field to the Columns area. Drag Amount to the Data cell. Since the Data cell needs an aggregate function, you'll most likely do OK with the SUM function that Reporting Services adds by default. Since you have zeros in your sample above where NULL data exists, replace the equation in the Data cell with the following to display a zero instead of a blank:

=Iif(Sum(Fields!Amount.Value) <> 0, Sum(Fields!Amount.Value), 0)
