Reporting services 2005 crashes

Hi All ,
I installed SQL server 2005 Enterprise edition 64 bit on windows server 2003
enterprise edition 64 bit machine.
I created a project and using a wizard created a report with Analysis
services cube as a datasource.Preview works fine but when I try to fix the
fonts or add elements and try to save it it crashes. How ever with out saving
I build the report or use the debug it works fine for the first time the next
time all the columns are deleted from the dataset.
I reproduced this problem thrice using diffrent prifile logons and creating
the project in different drives.
Thank you .
Rose.Applied Service pack noweverything seems good.

reporting services

I have a probleme with visual studio express edition 2005; I couldn't find the server report feature where can I put my reports. Also, many features dont work when I want create an application to access my reports creates whith reporting services.

what to do ?

I'm not sure whether the express edition comes with this, but you want to find a control in the toolbox called Report Viewer.|||Hi Fayoub

The first mistake I made when doing this was not having IIS installed on my local machine.
Have you got IIS installed?

hi,

first, thanks for your interest.

To answer your question I don't have installed IIS,but I have an Apache server

|||I'm afraid that reporting services needs IIS.
You should be able install this from your Win XP CD but based on my experiences you will then probably have to uninstall and reinstall SQl Server express (with advanced services to include reporting services)
|||ok,I heared about Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies

do you think it could be helpful to deploy my reports.Otherwise,I will work on IIS

|||

I have a 64-bit server (Xeon Quad Core) running Windows Server 2003

Standard R2 64-bit. This server is setup as a domain controller, and I

also have Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 running on this same server.

I recently attempted to install SQL Server 2005 Standard on the server.

The disks I have for SQL Server do not specifically say they are the

64-bit version. However during setup, it did say that it was installing

the 64-bit version of the components, with the exception of the

Reporting Services.

I received 1 error during setup which basically said that there was a

problem with Reporting Services registration because I have a 64-bit

version of ASP.NET, and that Reporting Services 32-bit version requires

the 32-bit version of ASP.NET. I have both .NET version 2 and 3

installed, both of which are 64-bit versions.

My question is, how can I install the 64-bit version of Reporting

Services? I am pretty sure the SQL Server 2005 disks I own have both 32

and 64-bit versions on the same disk (because I clearly saw it was

installing 64-bit versions of SQL components, with the exception of the

Reporting Services), although the label on the disks do not specifically

say 64-bit version.

I also realize there is a command that will allow me to run IIS in

32-bit emulation mode and hence allow me to install the 32-bit version

of Reporting Services. However, this mode will not work with Exchange

2007, so using this mode is not an option for me. I must be missing

something here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am not sure if the express edition works with sharepoint.

By default reports are automatically deployed to

http://localhost/reportserver$SQLExpress

For full instructions about setting the deployment server see this article

Reporting Services

Is it necessary that we need to have enterprise edition of Sql Server to install reporting Services?.I am trying to install reporting services on a xp desktop with .net 2003 sql server 2000 dev edition with sp3a.But unsuccessful to install the server components of the reporting services Please advice.SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services can run on the following operating systems:
Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later
Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4 or later
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server with SP4 or later
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later1
Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 or later1

Can run on :
SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition with SP3 or later3
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later3
SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition with SP3 or later3

Additional requirement :Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 (any edition) or the standard edition of Visual Basic .NET, Visual C# .NET, Visual C++ .NET Standard, or Visual J# .NET to use Report Designer. Report Designer can be installed on the same computer as Report Server components or on a separate computer.

1 - Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 Professional only support Reporting Services Developer Edition.

Reporting service not starting in SQL Express 2005 Advanced

I've installed SQL 2005 Express Advanced edition on an XP SP2 machine which
already had SQL 2005 Express SP1 installed. I followed the instructions on
deleting (moving) all files in the Template Data directory before attempting
the install - in the only instance I had on the computer (MSSQL.1).
After the install, I noticed that there was another instance (MSSQL.2) which
had the Reporting services folders in it. It didn't have any of the folders
found under MSSQL.1 in it. And of course when checking which instance the
reporting services are using under the SQL Server Config Manager, it says
Instance ID 2.
Also under either the SQL Server Config Manager or the Reporting Services
Config Manager it says that the Service Status is stopped and it won't start
using either manager. It gives a timeout error.
Anyone have an idea why? Is it because of the 2 instances? What else can I
check?
Thanks in advance.I think I may have found the problem. I didn't have a local group ASPNET
established. Once I created this local group, the service fired right up.

Reporting like this

I am using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

I have a table whose structure is follows:

Date
EmpID
Code
Amount

Sample data looks like this:

Date EMPID Code Amount

1-Jul-07 1 A1 100
1-Jul-07 1 B1 100
1-Jul-07 2 A1 150
1-Jul-07 3 B1 50
1-Jul-07 4 C1 120
1-Jul-07 4 D1 80
-

The Codes are not fixed, they can be of any number and varies from employee to employee.

I want to show a report like this:

Month: Jul-07 CODES --

EmpID A1 B1 C1 D1

1 100 100 0 0
2 150 0 0 0
3 0 50 0 0
4 0 0 120 80
--

Since Codes are not fixed, so an SQL query is difficult. What is the alternative approach?
I am thinking to create another table at run-time that reads column values (Code names) from the original table and create a field of that name in the next table.

I also want to know in which edition of SQL Server is reporting included. How SQL Server Reporting compares with Crystal Reports?
Secondly, while generating reports from Windows OS on a Dot-Matrix Printer, printing is slow. How can I print at a speed same as in DOS?

To answer the first part of your question:

It's a simple procedure to create a cross-tab report in Reporting Services. The dataset you'll create is nothing more than SELECT * FROM table. Next, add a List control to the form. Set the grouping to =Year(Fields!Date.Value), =Month(Fields!Date.Value) and add a Textbox control to display the month and year of the date field such as:

=Month(Fields!Date.Value) & "-" & Year(Fields!Date.Value)

Next, add a Matrix control inside the List and under the Textbox. Drag the EMPID field from the Datasets window to the Rows area of the Matrix. Drag the Code field to the Columns area. Drag Amount to the Data cell. Since the Data cell needs an aggregate function, you'll most likely do OK with the SUM function that Reporting Services adds by default. Since you have zeros in your sample above where NULL data exists, replace the equation in the Data cell with the following to display a zero instead of a blank:

=Iif(Sum(Fields!Amount.Value) <> 0, Sum(Fields!Amount.Value), 0)
