Reporting Services & Custom Assemblies

Hi everyone,

I am testing reporting services custom assembly feature, but have problems.

I have referenced my dll, put my class name and instantiated it...

when i try and use a method within my instantiated class, it says "file or assembly name was not found".

Any ideas?no joke. I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to give us a little more details to see if anyone knows?|||

Hi, I was also facing the same Hitch! But I found the solution.

Try the following

1. Make strong assembly

2. Place your assembly in Windows/assembly or winnt/assembly (GAC)

3 Use .Net configuration to give this assembly full trust.

4. reference your assembly in reporting services

This will solve the issue

Reporting Services - Question Please

Hello:

We've all heard of the uproar with SQL Server 2000's new feature: Reporting Services. I just have one question:

I have VS.NET 2002 at my place of employment, thus does this mean I won't be able to use Reporting Services? To use this new feature, i.e. Reporting Services, I will need VS.NET 2003 on one of the client machines, correct? Or, if I only have VS.NET 2002 (current), does this mean I can still install Reporting Services, but not be able to use the Report Designer part of Reporting Serivces?

Any feedback WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!Nevermind, I have found my answer:

One needs VS.NET 2003 to utilize the Report Designer.

reporting services

I have a probleme with visual studio express edition 2005; I couldn't find the server report feature where can I put my reports. Also, many features dont work when I want create an application to access my reports creates whith reporting services.

what to do ?

I'm not sure whether the express edition comes with this, but you want to find a control in the toolbox called Report Viewer.|||Hi Fayoub

The first mistake I made when doing this was not having IIS installed on my local machine.

hi,

first, thanks for your interest.

To answer your question I don't have installed IIS,but I have an Apache server

|||I'm afraid that reporting services needs IIS.
You should be able install this from your Win XP CD but based on my experiences you will then probably have to uninstall and reinstall SQl Server express (with advanced services to include reporting services)
|||ok,I heared about Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies

do you think it could be helpful to deploy my reports.Otherwise,I will work on IIS

|||

I have a 64-bit server (Xeon Quad Core) running Windows Server 2003

Standard R2 64-bit. This server is setup as a domain controller, and I

also have Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 running on this same server.

I recently attempted to install SQL Server 2005 Standard on the server.

The disks I have for SQL Server do not specifically say they are the

64-bit version. However during setup, it did say that it was installing

the 64-bit version of the components, with the exception of the

Reporting Services.

I received 1 error during setup which basically said that there was a

problem with Reporting Services registration because I have a 64-bit

version of ASP.NET, and that Reporting Services 32-bit version requires

the 32-bit version of ASP.NET. I have both .NET version 2 and 3

installed, both of which are 64-bit versions.

My question is, how can I install the 64-bit version of Reporting

Services? I am pretty sure the SQL Server 2005 disks I own have both 32

and 64-bit versions on the same disk (because I clearly saw it was

installing 64-bit versions of SQL components, with the exception of the

Reporting Services), although the label on the disks do not specifically

say 64-bit version.

I also realize there is a command that will allow me to run IIS in

32-bit emulation mode and hence allow me to install the 32-bit version

of Reporting Services. However, this mode will not work with Exchange

2007, so using this mode is not an option for me. I must be missing

something here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am not sure if the express edition works with sharepoint.

By default reports are automatically deployed to

Reporting Services

I have a hard time figuring out how the web service part is being
used. Has anyone done this? We are looking for a web service kind of
feature.
ThanksWhat are you trying to do? RS has very very strong support for web services.
Indeed, Report Manager in RS 2005 does everything it does using web
services. Books online has a whole ton on web services.
But, to back up, unless you are doing something fancy you are better off to
use the webform or winform that ships with VS 2005. Or in other cases look
at the URL integration. But, I would recommend using the controls from VS
2005.

What we were trying to do is have a client (via a browser app) get the
data from a data server, then pass a report name and the data to a
report server. I want to do this via a web service from report server
and then call a url but that requires passing data across applications
in IIS. I was hoping that the web services in the reporting servcies
could somehow help me. I don't know the right questions to ask to
resolve this.
Thanks.|||RS is designed as a SOA (Service Oriented Architecture). The pattern it is
designed to follow is that you give RS the parameters and the report name
and it does the rest. It queries the data and then renders it in whatever
format you desire. There is no direct way to do what you are asking for. If
you absolutely must do this you have several options:
1. Use the control that ships with VS 2005. It has a local and a remote
mode. In local mode you give the control the report and the tableset and it
does the rest. No server is used at all. However, there is a lot more work
to do with this method. You have to write code responding to events (for
instance with subreports). Designing a report is more complicated and takes
longer. And you lose the benefits of having a server (caching, performance
under load, subscriptions, etc).
2. If your goal is to interact with your own object model and the object
model retrieves the data then you might consider a Data Processing Extension
(search on that term in Books Online).
3. RS does have the ability to have a report be based on data returned by a
web service. So if the data you want to report off of is only available as a
web service this is a possibility for you.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345334.aspx
Finally, my guess is you have not created any reports in RS at all. That
would be a good place to start. Make sure you understand how to create
regular simple reports first and then go from there.

Reporting service with sql server 2005

I am developing an application using Visual C# 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I would like to make report services from feature of SQL Server 2005. Can I make report from reporting service with SQL Server 2005? How to make the report service?

Best regards,
Simba

Hello,

You have to develop a report with the Bi dev Studio and deploy the report in your report server. After you can call Reporting Services web services inside your managed PS in SQL Server.

Best regards,

Alexis Molteni

Thank you Alexis,

We are using Visual C# Express 2005 and MS SQL Server Express 2005. We are developing window based application and totally deploy the application on client machine. We would like to use SQL Reporting Service 2005 in the window application rather crystal report. At the moment we have SQL Server Express 2005 installed but there no way to get Reporting Service Designer.

Could you please let us know how to get the reporting service designer installed and how to deploy it with my window based application to client machine?

Best regards,
Simba

We're working right now to release a new edition of SQL Server Express that includes Reporting Services. The version of SQL Server Express that is included with Visual Studio 2005 does not include the Reporting Services functionality. Expect the new edition to be available as a web download. Unfortunately, I don't know what the official timeline is for the new edition. I can tell you we're actively working on it :-). When it is available, it will have the capabilities mentioned here:

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/rsfeatures.mspx

In the mean time - you can get a running start by using the dev edition of SQL Server 2005 and constraining yourself to use only the functionality that will be supported by the new edition.

Then can I use crystal report to make a report and view it inside the visual C#? How to embed the crystal report to report viewer control in C# toolbox?

I am now design a report in crystal report XI and I don't how to intergrate the crystal report to work with visual C# express.

Or would you please recommend me whether there are any free report designer control or visual C# express extension to make report work the same crystal report...

In Visual Studio 2005, Microsoft provides ReportViewer controls where you can embed a report in your managed application. The control is free of charge, distributable and has an integrated report designer. This control does not use Crystal. Rather it is built on SQL Server Reporting Services technology.

Note, you can embed a report in your application or show a report hosted on a Report Server in your application with these controls.

If you really want to use Crystal, you'll need to ask how to do that in the Crystal forum - this forum is all about SQL Server Reporting Services :-).

Thank you very much for your consideration

The controls themselves are freely redistributable. You can download the controls here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8a166cac-758d-45c8-b637-dd7726e61367&DisplayLang=en

But if I remember right, this package does not provide you the design surface. To get the design surface you will need to grab Visual Web Developer Express from the Microsoft download center and follow this link to get the add-in for the design surface:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/4/D/44DBDE61-B385-4FC2-A67D-48053B8F9FAD/SQLServer2005_ReportAddin.msi

Ok, this isn't an easy process, but it should get you up and running. You'll then be able to design reports and preview them in Visual Web Developer Express, and use those RDLC files (you'll know what I mean once you start playing with it) in the controls you instantiate programmatically in your C# express. For productivity's sake, you might want to invest in a full copy of C# standard edition if you can - it includes the design surface right there for you to use.

Also, you can find tons of information about the ReportViewer controls here:

Hello,

I use Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Reporting Service 2005. My computer is windows 2003 Server. I have created one reporting service project.

In my project, I have two parameters namely @.startdate and @.enddate. I have one matrix. I want to format background row of the matrix to have different colors. I use the expression like IIF(RowNumber(Nothing) Mod 2,"Grey","White"), but when i view it shows errors like:

the backgroundcolor expression for the textbox 'Revenue' has a scope parameter that is not valid for RunningValue, RowNumber or Previous. The scope parameter must be set to a string constant that is equal to the name of a containing group within the matrix. The textbox 'Revenue' is the results from data set when i specify @.startdate and @.enddate when i preview the report.

Thanks in advance for your help

The textbox 'Revenue' is the results from data set when i specify @.startdate and @.enddate when i preview the report.

Thanks in advance for your help
