Reporting Services 2005 on Windows 2000 server

Hi,

I successfully got SQL 2005 Express with reporting services running under VISTA. Developed some reports in the VISTA environment. However, my target system is a Windows 2000 server. We installed SQL 2005 w/reporting services onto the Windows 2000 server. SQL2005 Database is up and running. Reporting Services are running, IIS RRS virtual directories are built, RRS databases are built. I can do everything except deploy reports from Business Intelligent Studio. I can preview reports, just cannot deploy. The Reporting Services indicate 1 failure in its configuration; the Web Service Identity. It is loaded with <server>\ASPNET. I cannot get rid of this error. I assume this is the problem. After digging around I found that Windows 2000 does not have an ASPNET user, it uses the IWAM user instead. Reporting services did not run at all till I changed the rs config file and put the IWAM user in as <WebServiceAccount>.

Does anyone have Reporting services 2005 running on Windows 2000 server? Anyone know how to fix the Web Service Identity error I am getting?

Thanks

Could you please post the whole error message ?|||

I have the same problem too...

I can't change the value of ASP .NET Service Account in the text box and when I try to apply what is proposed (MACHINENAME\ASPNET - that don't exists), I receive the following error:

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 8007056B

at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)

I hope in a solution ....

Hi Matteo and rodgerst,

Could you, please, connect to your Report Server instance using the config tool, choose Report Server and Report Manager virtual directories tabs, check Apply Default Settings, and then press Apply?

If the previous workaround was not working, could you, please, go to this registry key corresponding to the RS instance:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\Setup

and look for this key: ReportManagerIdentityConfigured. Please change its value to what you want to have for your web service identity (the IWAM user).

I hope it helps. Please let me know how this is working for you.

Mihaela

Hi Mihaela

I've tried the first workaround, close and open RS Config Manager but ....nothing: a red X on web service identity and a locked textbox with the same wrong value.

The value specified in the second workaround don't exists in the registry key, and in entire registry... I've tried to create it, close and reopen Config Manager but .... nothing ....

If can be useful at this link i've saved a screenshot of registry

http://www.matteodistefano.it/public/registrySS.gif

Thanks in advance

Matteo

Matteo,

I see from your screenshot that you have SQL Express Advanced SP1 installed on the Windows 2000 machine, which is your Reporting Services server. I would suggest to try to install SP2 and see if this is working.

Thank you,

Mihaela

|||

Hi Mihaela

Thanks for your answer,

For the moment I can't access directly to it, so I won't risk to install a service pack remotely on a production server.

I'll do it after 6 weeks.

Any other suggestions are appreciate.

Thanks

|||

Tried applying default settings; did not help. Tried regedit; ReportManagerIdentityConfigured is not a key in either MSSQL.1 or MSSQL.2. Should I try adding it to MSSQL.2\Setup?

|||My registry looks like Matteo's snapshot except we are running the Enterprise Evaluation Edition.

Reporting Services

Dear All,

Developed a report using Reporting services (2005)integrating Chart FX .The report is built successfully but raises an error on deployment.

Error: Could not connect to the report server.

To resolve the error in the properties of the project i had given the target server url=Http://localhost/webfoldername (installed webservices on the local server)

but still i am getting the same error.

How to resolve the error.

Regards

Mohd Sufian

Hi,

didi you figure out if the WebService is currently running ? Just navigate to http://machinename/Reportserver (or whatever you directory for webservices is) to see if something is displayed there.

Dear ,

First i got the error Target server Url cannot be accessed(invalid source). Then i provided the webserver address. It worked fine.

Sounds like you need to configure your report server. Use the Reporting Services Configuration Tool for that purpose.

-Lukasz

|||

Thats probably like the error message is telling you. YOu have to either restore the symetric key which is used to encrypt and decrypt the report definition in the Report Server Database or if you don′t have a backup copy, delete all encrypted content in the database. AFAIK there is no way to rescue the data if the key is lost. Like Lukasz said, you can do all the administrative stuff in the Reporting Services Configuration tool. If you don′t have a valid backup of your symetric key, do this as a first step after deleting all the encrypted content.

Dear Jens,

Sorry not to post before as i had solved the problem long time back.

The problem doesnt occure because of Encryption keys.

The problem occured becuase the shared Datasource used in building the report is

is blocked by some source.so i created again the datasource after i connect to the reporting services from management studio.

Dear AIMDBA,

First go to the properties of the project.

Provide the URLSource as HTTP://Computername having the webservices installed/webfolder/

Run the report .

Now connect to the Management studion and connect to SSIS.

Import the report u developed right click and run .U will see the error.

Go to the properties and create a new datasource same as the datasource provided in the report.

Now execuete the report.

If u still can accesse the report.Browse to the Reporting services configuration

Check weather all things configured properly.

If still not working delete the encription keys and save again.Backup the encription keys.

Reporting Service with Analysis service

I compose two servers. One is for Reporting service and the other is for
Analysis Service. I developed one report with analysis services's cube as a
datasource.
but the report does not execute properly. the message is for datasource
connection error.
So I compose the server again as one server. The RS ans AS installed in this
server.
The report works properly!
Is it impossible to install at seperate server ?
I used SQL server 2000 with current sevicepack.Hey,
It does work with 2 different servers. You may be having issues with
authentication or permissions.
If possible use an admin account from Analysis server in the connection
properties of the datasource.

Reporting Service Performance

I have developed a Windows Forms Control that renders ReportingService reports as a metafile, This way the reports can be shown on as 'Crystal Reports' does in the wysiwyg way. But when the reports contain some hundered pages (and that happens often) the rendering of one page takes up to 3 seconds. The reason for this is not the SQL statement (it is a simple listing of 15000 records in one table). Is there a way to speed this up without using caches or snapshots? The Controls main feature must be that it can easily show and print reports.
The Control is based on the following code: http://blogs.msdn.com/bryanke/articles/71491.aspxThe image rendering extension was not really designed to be used this way
and is known to have issues with large reports. Bryan's code is a interim
approach until we have the supported set of report controls available in VS

Reporting Service HTML Tag Interpretaion

Hi,
I've developed report in Reporting Service.
I've data return by SQL server includes HTML tags.
i.e
Enonche Ameh<br>7600 Leesburg Pike<br>Falls Church, VA 22043
But it displayes the data in the report as it without line break and in the
same line as a single sentence. It doesn't interpret
line break.
It should display
Enonche Ameh
7600 Leesburg Pike
Falls Church, VA 22043
What would be the reason ?
Thanks

e.g. - this outputs name then address on next line

What i want is that my data stored is in HTML format,
that include HTML formating tags like <br> etc..
When i bound it with Text box , rather display it as
formatted text it simpley displays the text as it is with
tags.
I come to know that RS doesn't support HTML or RTF
format directly. One have to used VB.Net and create custom
code for it.
Is there any function or code anyone have that can directly convert
HTML To text ?

out of the database you are out of luck. RS does not support this.

renderer.

Reporting Server - Passing Parameters programtically

We've developed several reports where you can type in / select variables and run them, affecting their outcomes.

We'd like to change this so if the user clicks on a link from our Intranet, this takes them straight to the report with the appropriate parameter(s) - rather like the "jump to report" function within a report - i.e. the url for that function...

Is this possible?

Steve

Yes, it is. You should check in the docs for topics mentioning "URL Access", but the basic deal is this:

I usually start this by drilling down to the appropriate URL for the report (sans parameters) using ReportServer rather than Reports (Report Manager) interface.

Once you have the appropriate base URL, you can add the appropriate instructions to the URL's query string.

You start with the ones that tell the server to render the report, in the appropriate format, for example:

&rs:Command=Render&rs:format=EXCEL

... and then you can add your params to this as more name-value pairs in normal querystring style, for example:

&myParam1=53&myKeyValue=SomeToken&myID=965

... okay?

By "start with" and "then", I don't mean that the order of the params and report instructions in the query string is significant, just that I generally think it through in this order, report-owned instructions and then parameters. If you are going to build the URL dynamically at runtime it helps to think about the two groups separately <s>.

superb! i think the note to add to this is to use the "report server" site not the "reports" site i.e. http://servername/reportserver rather than http://servername/reports

thanks

Yup, that's the way they do it in the docs, and that's the way I've been doing it... one site is the "real" server and the other is just the pretty interactive interface....
