Reporting Services add (browser) back button

Dear all,

I have a client that has 4 reports; 1 main, and 3 that are rendered when the user clicks the report data on the main report (which passes parameters to generate the other 3).

They would like to have a back button in the report header of the 3 reports (they don't want to use the browser back button).

Is this possible using a text box, then editing the navigation properties and does anyone have an example? Or am I missing something quite obvious?

Any help would be gratefully received!!

Dan

Actually I managed to use javascript:history.back(1)

Reporting Services 2005 & IE7 Beta

When trying to print an RS2005 report, I keep getting the error "Unable to
load client print control". This is because the RSClientPrint ActiveX
control is not loaded. I have noticed that in IE7 Beta is not automatically
prompting to download the control. Has anyone been successful in running
this under IE7? I am using 7.0.5112.0, Beta 1.
* "Enable download for the ActiveX client print control" is enabled on the
server.
* Report Server added to the Trusted Sites list
* Download Signed ActiveX Controls = Enable
* Script ActiveX Controls Marked Safe for Scripting = Enable
* Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls = Enable
Works fine under IE6.
Thanks,
-sYou may want to insure that it is enabled.
Tools->Internet Options->Programs->Manage Add-ons
If RSCleintPrint Class is enabled, you may want to delete it and allow
it to be reinstalled.
Hope you get it to working,

Reporting Services 2000 With SQL Server 2005

Dear all,
I am using Reporting Services 2000 with SQL Server 2000 and .NET
FrameWork 1.1
My client wants to migrate the DataBase to SQL Server 2005.
The reports *.rdl are hosted by the IIS Web Server running .NET
Framwork 1.1
The question is very simple:
Can I change the SQL Server 2000 to 2005 without migrating the reports
that are under the Visual Studio 2003?
OR
Do I have to migrate the reports to 2005 as well?
Best regards,
Stefan

Reporting Services 2000 Requirement for Visual Studio

I have a client who already has SQL-2000 SP4 installed and now wishes
to have reporting services installed.
The installation indicates a pre-requisite of Visual Sudio .Net 2003.
Further investigation on Microsoft web site reveals that VS would have
to be version "Enterprise Developer" or "Enterprise Architect."
I know in SQL 2005 that VS is included. One option presented to the
client would be to upgrade.
My question is, was any form of visual studio included with SQL 2000
or will the client need to purchase a license for Visual Studio .Net
2003? Is VS .Net 2003 even still available?
Thanks in advance.
DanThat is some information which is not quite true...

No, you will just need a one-language version of Visual Studio, thats
all, without nailing me down on the price, that should be around 100$.
> I know in SQL 2005 that VS is included. One option presented to the

Sort of. You will be able to create Report / Analysis and SSIS
projects with the "small" edition of this studio.

No, there was non included. Yes, he would have to buy a licencse for
that, see the above mentioned answer.
> Is VS .Net 2003 even still available?
-Yes, it is. I assume that not all vendors of your choice will still
have it, but it is available in some places. Perhaps you might find a
version on ebay which was exchanged by someone with the 2k5 version.

need to be Enterprise Developer or Enterprise Architect. Very definitely
not. The cheapest way is to get VB.Net 2003, it used to cost about $100.
However, I don't know how you go about finding a copy to buy.
Now, if Enterprise Developer is the only one that you can find to purchase
it will work but any product that comes with VS 2003 will work.

ones that talk to SQL Server as opposed to destop databases (Access,
SQL Desktop). Do they mean something else (like you only need
enterprise for applications that directly access the database not
reports that will be run through report writer)?
On a side note, will Visual Studio 2005 Express (the free one) work?
Will any version of Visual Studio 2005 work?

RS 2000 requires some version of VS 2003. Neither of the two you mention

reporting services (client or server) ad-hoc user created reports?

Hi,
I would like to allow my users to create report templates and save them.
The reports should get their data from my business objects. I'm not really
sure where to begin with this.. I image that i'll need to setup reporting
services.
Currently I have rdlc client reports and report viewer. I don't mind moving
to server reports if required, but i'd like to continue to use the viewer to
display them in my application.
Has anyone else done this?
Thanks
Andyhey Andy
have you had a look at Report Builder? This is really what this is

Yes, but I'm at the point where I still need to learn how to build the
model for use in report builder. As I said, I'm just starting with
this.. and only one book I found spends any time on ad-hoc reports,

reporting service client and column selection

can I use excel as a client for my reporting service? I see some docs on it,
but can't find the actual product. I want the user to be able to select what
column to be displayed. Is that possible now? how about sql 2005.Reporting Services 2000 can export to Excel format.
Reporting Services 2005 can too.
Office 12 (due in about a year?) has some additional Business
Intelligence functionality. There isn't much public yet about what
that will consist of, but it looks likely that Excel will do some
interesting things with Analysis Services information.
Can you elaborate on your column-related question? I am not sure
precisely what you are asking.

server. basically, excel acting as a fat client.
column selection: if the report dispaly a table which consists of 10
columns, however, some user may not be interested in seeing all 10 columns.
Can the end user have the ability to hide/collapse that column? i.e. make the
report to display 5 columns instead of ten.

would expect to see more off-the-shelf functionality/integration of
SQL Server (2005?) BI apps with Office apps, including Excel then.
I believe you can use Excel (not sure which versions) to connect to a
Web Service. Since RS has a Web Service it should be possible to
produce a custom Excel app if you have the relevant VBA etc skills.
It's not something I have explored in detail.

Reporting Service Client

I am asked to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Service Client on
user's desktop. I loaded the CD (Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting
Services) on my desktop, it says:
1. IIS is not installed.
2. ASP.NET is not installed.
3. Visual Studio.NET is not installed.
My question is: Is there a standalone Reporting Service Client I can install
on any user's desktop to access Reporting Servcie Server? Why it asked
IIS/ASP.NET/Visual Studio.NET to be installed on desktop?
To access RS and view the reports the client only needs IE. To use the
Report Designer to author (create) reports in the RDL and to publish the
reports to the report server, the client requires the entries you listed
from the RS prerequisites.

Reporting on summarised date range data

Hi all

Suppliers send my client sales figures in different formats. Some send data for each sale, some summarise by week, month or quarter.

I need to report on this data, showing estimates as to how many sales per day, week, month or quarter. To give you an example of the data I receive, see a simplified script below.

CREATE TABLE dbo.sales_summary (
summary_id int IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT FOR REPLICATION NOT NULL ,
start_date datetime NOT NULL ,
end_date datetime NOT NULL ,
number_of_sales int not null
)
GO

insert into sales_summary VALUES ( '20030101', '20030131', 100)
insert into sales_summary VALUES ( '20030101', '20030120', 150)
insert into sales_summary VALUES ( '20030111', '20030131', 200)
insert into sales_summary VALUES ( '20030201', '20030228', 120)
insert into sales_summary VALUES ( '20030201', '20030207', 50)
go

As you can see, I essentially receive a date range and a number of sales in each row. The data in the real system is received from more than 100 suppliers and the sales_summary table has more than a million rows in it.

Can anyone suggest an efficient way of being able to create a report that lists sales
- for each day
- for each week
- for each month
etc.

An example of the daily report might look something like

Date Number of Sales
01-Jan-03 20
02-Jan-03 0
03-Jan -03 15
etc.

An example of the weekly report might look something like

Week Starting Number of Sales
01-Jan-03 100
08-Jan-03 135
15-Jan-03 54
etc.

This has been driving me nuts for a while so any help is appreceiated.
MattAnyone got any bright ideas regarding how to do this? I'm still stuck.|||First, you will not be able to list actual daily sales for clients that return weekly summarys, or actual weekly sales for clients that return monthly summarys. You just don't have the detail data.

You might be able to solve some of your problems by including a calculated field in your table:

Daily_Sales = Number_Of_Sales/datediff(day, Start_Date, End_Date)

Thank you for the reply. I have seen that. Presently I cannot recommend this

1. The reporting service is still in Beta
2. The application I am developing has been written in ASP and not .Net
I am currently writing server side components that do the complex database

the reports. I find this process too complicated and time consuming and
error prone. I was looking for any other efficient means for doing this

|||1) Its release date is less than a week away
2) Its a web service so you can use it from ASP, you don't need the app to
be written in .NET however you'd probably find it a lot easier in .NET even
if you are not that familiar with it. You can also use URL access which may
be simpler in your scenario
Also,it is highly extensible, you can write delivery extensions for
Reporting Services such as Printer Delivery extensions. It in fact includes
a Printer Delivery Extension in the devloper samples with it. I agree its
not ideal if you are not familiar with .NET but it might be well worth
getting to know it :-)
