Reporting services 2005 crashes

Hi All ,
I installed SQL server 2005 Enterprise edition 64 bit on windows server 2003
enterprise edition 64 bit machine.
I created a project and using a wizard created a report with Analysis
services cube as a datasource.Preview works fine but when I try to fix the
fonts or add elements and try to save it it crashes.How ever with out saving
I build the report or use the debug it works fine for the first time the next
time all the columns are deleted from the dataset.
I reproduced this problem thrice using diffrent prifile logons and creating
the project in different drives.
Thank you .
Rose.Applied Service pack noweverything seems good.

Reporting Services 2000 web-services rendering

We are using Reporting Services 2000 and we have a project in which we need to implement a security layer in a customized ASP.NET application to authenticate and authorize requests to view reports.

The client's needs are secure / restricted access via the public internet, all requests must go through the ASP.NET application (the report server URL must NEVER be visible) and the client must be able to print the report using the special ActiveX print plug-in for the reports (otherwise the Internet Explorer print functionality will seriously mess up the output)

There are two approaches we have considered with pros and cons:

a.) render the report using the ReportViewer control. The problem is, this control is just a wrapper around query-based accessing of the Report Server. This exposes the RS URL and ultimately, the resulting HTML from the RS will have SRC tags that expose the Report Server. The advantage is the client retains full functionality that the default rendering interface of RS would ordinarily have.

b.) render the report programmatically using the SOAP web service and render each individual stream. The problem with this is the development is far more difficult and we lose the customized printing functionality of the ActiveX control

We are proposing to use a variation of option a.) by having our ASP.NET page delegate a request via a HttpRequest object to the Report Server and then performing either a regex or XSLT transformation on the returned stream to replace all SRC tags to a resource into a redirect to an ASP.NET page that will be parameterized by the streamid of a report resource. This page would simply return the result as a byte stream. This would keep all the work server-side and never expose the server URL. This way we preserve the Report Server interface (and the precious print functionality) while masking the URLs.

There must be a simpler approach than the one I have described. Can anyone come up with a solution that will fulfill our requirements? Will Reporting Services 2005 fix this?

At the very least, is there a way to control the printing (without exporting to PDF) when using the web service API to render the report programmatically?|||I did something similar where we used the MeadCo ScriptX print control to modify some basic print settings (like margin, page setup, and header and footers). Just need to add a script block to the end of the rendered html to modify the print settings.|||

There is no better approach to solve the problem in RS 2000. Actually, there is still a flaw in your approach if the report contains drillthrough report (hyperlink to other reports) or subreport, it will still reveal the URL of the report server to the customer.

In RS2005, this problem is solved by the new ReportViewer control. You may get more information about the newly introduced in ReportViewer via the following website:

Reporting Services & Authentication

Hi

I'm just about to embark on a project which will use Reporting Services and ASP.net.

I need to produce about 800 individual reports which will then bemade accessible via the internet. Each report will only be accessibleto a specific user so I want to allow users to be able to logon usingan asp.net form which will then redirect them to their specific report.

I believe this can be done but how and can anyone direct me to a really good tutorial?

Many thanks

Hmm, I don't think much of this forum - nobody answers your questions. Are there any so called experts out there!?? :-(

Thankfully I have managed to find it out myself but only after some time.

This should help someone with a similar problem:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365305.aspx

plus, if you have put the RS samples on your pc look at the forms authentication sample here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Samples\Reporting Services\Extension Samples\FormsAuthentication Sample\cs\FormsAuthentication

Hope this helps

Reporting Server Project 2005 - xml datasource - Querying the data

The way I create the report is I use VS2005 to create the RDL programmatically on the fly. The problem is querying the data when I use XML as a data source (changing the data source is not an option).

I can connect to the XML data source, I enter a basic query in the data tab in VS 2005 and what happens is for some reason or another the above element in XML gets concatenated onto the column name in the result set.

So what I have to do is manually modify the RDL file to accept the new names and then the report works. There has to be a way to not have this happens. Any advice on where I can find information on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Examples are always welcome.

See below for an example of what I did and an example of the XML data.

XML File Example:
<data>
<Table>
<iss_id>Test Data1</issu_id>
<issue_nm>Test Data1</issue_nm>
</Table>
<Table>
<iss_id>Test Data2</issu_id>
<issue_nm>Test Data2</issue_nm>
</Table>
<data>

XML Query: (I enter this in the data tab in VS 2005)
data/Table

Result:

Table_iss_id Table_issue_nm <--Column Headers
Test Data1 Test Data1
Test Data2 Test Data2

I think it has to do with the webservice web method, and how it needs to be set-up for serializing the parameters correctly to work with the XML data Source. I am having a similar problem which I am documenting here

Reporting PWA HTML data?

We are using the SQL Reporting services to report on PWA workspaces.
(Project Server 2007)
A number of workspaces have data items stored as multi-line Rich Text
- which becomes embedded HTML when stored to the database.
The problem is that when it is included in any SQLRS reports it looks
*awful* because the html tags are just embedded within the text,
rather than formatted.
I've seen a couple of posts on SQLRS which basically say 'tough luck
until SQL2008' which isnt very encouraging :(
Is this really true - is there really no way to format html within
SQLRS reports?
Seems like a pretty critical ommission.
Crystal reports can do this stuff standing on its head :)
Any ideas on how to format HTML text within a SQLRS report? (built in
functions, add-ins etc)
Thanks
Al BlakeAl
Certainly this post would be better placed on the dev group, but you might
even consider asking the question in the appropriate SQL group.

means though. For instance, does it mean you can have html from the database
and show that in a field? I don't know, but I sure hope to. I'm going to
investigate some out of my own curiosity on this.
But, for today, the only option is to strip HTML tags and convert the html
to straight text. Not sure if that will do it for you.

Reporting on a dynamic recordset

I have my first project with reporting services - 2000 not 2005 and the very
first report that I have to generate is based on a dynamic pivot of an SQL
table.
This means at design time, I don't know how many columns there is going to
be - it will vary quite a lot depending on date ranges and time of year and
so on.
Is there any way to create a report at run time using code? - C# preferably
Thanks for any helpCould you use a matrix control? This allows you to have a variable number of
columns.

run?
Can a Matrix do that - I couldn't find anything to say it could

called ColumnNo in the stored procedure on which my report dataset is
introduced. This allowed me to have as many columns as required depending on
the reports parameters and the underlying data.

I may be back ;)
