Reporting Services

Authentication via internet explorer fails when connecting to reporting
services from a hostname other then the NETBIOS name.
for example my servers name is BOB
so if i do http://bob/ReportServer it works fine
I have an A record that points reportingservices.mydomain.com to BOB's ip
address
so if i go to http://reportingservices.mydomain.com/ReportServer I get the
user credentials box. How can I fix this?On Mar 2, 9:06 pm, Nick T <N...@.discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

It seems like you should check the authentication methods of the
virtual directory pointed to in IIS for http://reportingservices.mydomain.com/ReportServer.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Enrique Martinez
Sr. SQL Server Developer|||The virtual directory is just part of the default web site

I think this situation depends on security settings in IE.
Try to add http://reportingservices.mydomain.com/ website to your trusted
websites.
If still you 'll be prompted for login and password check security settings
in IE (for trusted sites).
Ensure that you have checked the last option for logging user (logging with
current user name and password).
I hope this will help.

Reporting Services

A recent MSDN magazine article decribed SQL Server's Reporting Services.
Will Reporting Services work on MSDE?
TIA!
Wayne P.
No, you can't host Reporting Services on MSDE--it must be Standard Edition
or better. You CAN, however, extract data from MSDE databases and virtually
any other data source.

IMHO this is a shame - the toolset would have added a nice set of
functionality for smaller projects. Most of my clients end up using MSDE
solely due to the price of MS SQL.
Thanks again -

Reporting Service with Analysis service

I compose two servers. One is for Reporting service and the other is for
Analysis Service. I developed one report with analysis services's cube as a
datasource.
but the report does not execute properly. the message is for datasource
connection error.
So I compose the server again as one server. The RS ans AS installed in this
server.
The report works properly!
Is it impossible to install at seperate server ?
I used SQL server 2000 with current sevicepack.Hey,
It does work with 2 different servers. You may be having issues with
authentication or permissions.
If possible use an admin account from Analysis server in the connection
properties of the datasource.
Bye

Reporting Service on NLB and Virtual Servers

Trying to get reporting Services to work under a Virtual Server that is NLB.
I can access the reports manager and Reports via the Default Web and basic
reports via the virtual server. The problem I cannot access the reports if it
requires a param specified by the user. It fails with a browser DNS error.
Does any know how to make this work. Like I said prior non-param, reports are
working fine. The error only happens with Param reports.
IE: Http://<Virtual IP>/ReportServer?/<Reports Folder>/<Report
Folder>/<report Name>
Another weird thing is this works in our test environment without NLB.Actually after some more investigation I've figured out what was causing the
below mention problem but now something else is weird.
Okay so here is the weird thing. I have created the VDirectories under my
site since we do not use the Default Web Site like most people. Anyway, The
problem I'm having is if I view the VDir on the site Http://<Ip
address>/reportserver I get a cannot connect error "cannot find server
....". The weird thing is if I change the ip address to All Unassigned for
the Site it works fine. Of course this is not acceptable either.
I haven't been able to find anything in regards to what might be causing
this.. Does anyone have a idea?

First, I install the report service and report database on a sql server. then after i successfully install RS on the 1st webserver in web farm, i have problem install RS on the 2nd web server in web farm. below is the log. all three machines are in the same domain.
any thoughts, recommendations, suggestions?
thanks

Reporting Servers - Export to Multiple tabs in Excel

I need to create a Reporting Services report that contains multiple result sets. I want each result set to export to a different tab in Excel. I want to be able to name the tab. I would also like the headings in Excel to show up in the Header section of Excel, rather than in the body of the spreadsheet. Is there a way to accomplish this task.

Put multiple tables in your report and then put page breaks before them. Each manual page break becomes a new tab.

For headers, you need to use a Excel DeviceInfo setting, SimplePageHeaders (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155069(en-US,SQL.90).aspx). If you want this to be the default, you can add it to the RSReportServer.config file (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156281.aspx).

|||Is there a way to specify the name of the Excel tab, instead of Sheet1?|||

I would like to do this also. Is there any way to name each Sheet?

|||Unfortunately no, you cannot control the sheet naming.|||

Thanks for answering Mike.

Do you know if there are any plans to add this capability?

|||

I can find no reference to this in the documentation and it appears to be ignored - presumeably this is RS 2005 only? (I'm using 2000 SP2).

Would this get round my current problem of having lots of additional columns/merged cells to accommodate all the header layout when exported to Excel? Ideally I want the data structure in Excel to be a straight forward matrix of the data values in the report table which isn't feasible when exported to Excel with our default headers which contains a lot of labels containing context information.

Reporting Server - Replication Topology

Currentlly, we have 2 SQL 2000 Servers in a Win2003 Cluster. Everything
works great. Our application runs on two IIS web servers and connects to the
SQL back end.
When people are running reports the SQL server can get taxed. What is the
best replication method where uses can connected to a different SQL server
and run reports on that server? The data has to be as current as possible.
Thanks!

|||Hilary,
Where can I find a good "How To" to set this up properly? Is this fairly
easy? What do you have to watch for? I have setup log shipping before and
that is pretty simple. Thanks!

Reporting on two remote location databases

We have couple of SQL databases on different SQL Servers that are at
different remote locations in two different network domains. The
requirement is to generate reports by pulling in information from both
these databases.
What is the best way to go about it?
We have been asked to consider the linked server option, but we are
wondering what kind of impact will it have on performance? Is this a
efficient way to go about it? As far as the report ideally we would
like the reports on live data however if by linking the servers over
the internet causes performance issue we would like to research other
avenues.
Any ideas, suggestions or links in this subject will be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you very much Will for reponding and you input.
I am assuming the reports are very simple, I mean it will probably
involve few simple joins. What kind of setup will be required to
connect to a SQL Server over the web or do we need a VPN connection to
make it secure and run faster?
Thanks
|||1) Check out linked server. I would recommend you encapsulate the remote
reports into sprocs if possible. Also, look to reduce the cross-server
joins and the amount of data returned.
2) Consider some form of encryption (VPN perhaps?) to ensure data security
if this is not an already secure network setup.

ThanksAs a lot of reports tend to present high-level (aggregated) overviews of
data, linked servers sounds like a definite non-starter.

Thank you very much Will for reponding and you input.
I am assuming the reports are very simple, I mean it will probably
involve few simple joins. What kind of setup will be required to
connect to a SQL Server over the web or do we need a VPN connection to
make it secure and run faster?
Thanks|||1) Check out linked server. I would recommend you encapsulate the remote
reports into sprocs if possible. Also, look to reduce the cross-server
joins and the amount of data returned.
2) Consider some form of encryption (VPN perhaps?) to ensure data security
if this is not an already secure network setup.
