Hi, I installed the two virtual directories on a new, non default web with
the RS Configuration Tool, what was well done and described on
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155921.aspx. If now I try to
access the server by: http://<hostheader>/reportserver it looks up for a
web.config file
(C:\Programme\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\web.config) in
the base directory. So this file is not there, why it shoud be. With
http://localhost/reportserver it works without this file. What must be done
more to use the report service on non default web?
Thanks, JanCheck the value of the <URLRoot> tag in the rsreportserver.config file.

reporting service install help files only
Hi,
I am trying to install reporting services on windows 2003 server, everytime
it only installs help files. there are no virtual directories and nothing in
IIS at all.
there is no log file, no error messages...install runs ithout even
prompting for the settings such as sql server etc....install just runs and
after few minutes says it is finished.
what can be causing this.
thanks
K DhariwalI had this problem some months ago, when someone only installed Books
Online and not the whole Reporting Services 2000 package as planned. In
the end, I had to uninstall everything, reboot the server, and then
start the installation again.
If you're installing Reporting Services 2000 version:
Start your Reporting Services installation setup. When you're asked if
you want to repair/modify or uninstall, choose uninstall. This should
clean up most of it. Boot and start setup. See if there's anything
missing. If IIS (Internet Information Services) or .NET framework is
missing, you need to install these first, before continuing with the
installation. IIS can be installed by opening "Add/remove programs",
click on "Add/remove Windows Components" and adding it from the
Application Server menu.

If the installation wizard says that Visual Studio is missing, you can
continue, if you're installing this on a server not used for developing
reports.
This should send you on the right track to install Reporting Services
properly.
Kaisa M. Lindahl|||Hello,
I ran the install file to remove sql reporting services. funny enough
install setup ran and tried to install reporting services and at the end it
says installation successful. then i removed it from add/remove programs and
rebooted the server. made sure all required components are there. install
reporting services, same issue. no prompts for sql server specification
server componenets etc.
i have done quite a few installations of sql reporting services and never
had funny program like this. worst part is that it is not even producing
error message. there is no log file to look at. only thing which is there is
the help file [bunch of html files etc.]
thanks in advance
