Reporting Services (newbie)

Dear all,

When I choose 'Reporting Services' as Server Type from Connection Manager there is nothing in the textbox. Why?

My crystal ball is currently unavailable, so please give some more information what you are doing!
Maybe you are talking about MS SQL Server Management Studio and that the dropdown "servername" gehts empty when you change servertype to "reporting services"?

Yes.. I was talking about that from Sql Management Studio dialog when I select in Server Type 'Reporting Services' the textbox Server Name appears empty.

Hope that clairifies my lack of info...(between my poor english and my unknowledge)

If you haven't connected to a Reporting Services server from this copy of Management Studio, the Server Name will be empty. The Server Name list is just a list of servers that you have previously connected to.

Just because you have connected to Database Engine --> SERVERNAME, it will not show up in the list for other Server Type connections.

|||I would try reinstalling SQL Tools on your local PC. Looks like that may be where the problem is.

Reporting Services - Graphics on Reports

I am having problems displaying graphic on report. None of them is not avail
able when I open report in Report Manager (data and layout are fine). That i
ncludes AdvantureWorks sample reports.
However, when I export report to PDF format all graphic is exported and disp
layed properly.
Any idea why this is happening and what to do to resolve it?
Technical background:

(without an underscore in the name). The report looked great and worked
properly.
Then I deployed the report to our production server (which has an underscore
in the server name) and experienced the same issues you mentioned. We have
a report that does "drill down" (grouping with expandable groups). That
report does not work properly either. When the reports are deployed to a
server without an underscore in their name they work properly.
I may have a bit more of an explanation for you, but I need to fire off an
email first.

Reporting Services

Dear all,

When I choose 'Reporting Services' as Server Type from Connection Manager there is nothing in the textbox. Why?

"Reporting Services" is not a connection manager type as far as I can see (I right-clicked in "Connection Managers" area and selected "New Connection...".

Where exactly are you choosing that?

Well, just test it nothing else. Up to the moment our "bussiness as usual" doesn't requires its possibilities.

I think you were probably working in Management Studio and selecting Reporting Services from the drop down list when connecting a new Object Explorer. Is that right? In which case you need to enter the name of your local report server - or just "." should do it.

Or may be I have it wrong. I guess we're not clear on where you are seeing this reference to RS. Perhaps a screenshot would help, or step by step repro of how to get to the dialog.

needed to do was re-install .Net 2.0 framework. I'm not sure if it got
damaged because of the order I installed applications on my computer, but
repairing Framework 2.0 seems to have done the trick.

Reporting Service on NLB and Virtual Servers

Trying to get reporting Services to work under a Virtual Server that is NLB.
I can access the reports manager and Reports via the Default Web and basic
reports via the virtual server. The problem I cannot access the reports if it
requires a param specified by the user. It fails with a browser DNS error.
Does any know how to make this work. Like I said prior non-param, reports are
working fine. The error only happens with Param reports.
IE: Http://<Virtual IP>/ReportServer?/<Reports Folder>/<Report
Folder>/<report Name>
Another weird thing is this works in our test environment without NLB.Actually after some more investigation I've figured out what was causing the
below mention problem but now something else is weird.
Okay so here is the weird thing. I have created the VDirectories under my
site since we do not use the Default Web Site like most people. Anyway, The
problem I'm having is if I view the VDir on the site Http://<Ip
address>/reportserver I get a cannot connect error "cannot find server
....". The weird thing is if I change the ip address to All Unassigned for
the Site it works fine. Of course this is not acceptable either.
I haven't been able to find anything in regards to what might be causing
this.. Does anyone have a idea?

Reporting Server on Window Server 2000, IIS 5.1

I have SQL server 2005 with reporting service on a machine with Windows 2000 with IIS 5.1. Now in the Reporting Services Manager I see a big X on Server Status, Web Service Identity and Initialisation.

In Server Status if I click on start I get the error: and if I click on it I get the message:
"The task failed:
System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException: Time out has expired and the operation has not been completed.
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.WaitForStatus(ServiceControllerStatus desiredStatus, TimeSpan timeout)

If I click on Initialization I get:
"There was en error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an error retreiving WMI properties. The exception detailsare:
An error accured when attemting to connect to the report server remote ca (RCP) end point. Verify that the Report Server Windows service is running, and the retry the operation.

The RCP server is not listening (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706B3)"

I went and look in the SQL Server Configuration Manager and I can see that the SQL Server Reporting Services is stoped and is set to start automatically. If I try to start it manually I get an error as well:
"The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other application error logs for details.

Now if I look in my Application log I see the following error:
"Service cannot be started. Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.UnknownUserNameException: The user or group name 'SERVEUR\ASPNET' is not recognized.

Ok I think I got a solution. Wow you really have to know it because honestly the error messages provided by windows were not helping at all.

So anyway find the file rsreportserver.config and locate the line <WebServiceAccount></WebServiceAccount>
and replace it with
<WebServiceAccount>NT Authority\System</WebServiceAccount>
Save the file.
Go in the SQL Server Configuration Manager and start the SQL Server Reporting Services.
Now if you go in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager the Initialization should be green instead of a red X.|||

everything seems to work fine except in certain places in
the web app. Buttons just don't seem to have a related
event for the onclick or onsubmit. If you click it
nothing happens.

It could be the client side javascript files supporting ASP.NET are
not installed properly. Find and run 'aspnet_regiis.exe -c'

Reporting Manager

We are building SQL Reporting Services for use within our company, what we
are going to do is launch the reporting services from with in our Company
intranet. We would prefer not to launch a new window when we do this, is
there an easy way to add a link on the Reporting services page to link the
user back to the main intranet page?Patrick,
If you read our book "Hitchhiker's Guide to SQL Server 2000 Reporting
Services" then we show you in Chapter 11 how you can indeed customise the
Report Manager.
This example flash file illustrates a modification

that enables the parameter area to be modified - but you'll find the
techniques discussed in the book will give you enough idea to be able to put
a link to your Company Interanet website into the Report Manager.
