Reporting Services and Excel
unanswered. Here goes...I'm trying to create a report in reporting services.
The end result will be a subscription that creates an Excel file with
contains multiple sheets (Tabs). Each sheet should corresponds to a different
query or subreport. All the sheets will be derived from the same data source
and all the sheets except for one have the same column headers. Can someone
tell me how I would set this up in reporting services? I have been able to
create several reports and deployed them individual. The result is a
subscription for each report, and several individual Excel files with one
sheet. Thanks!!
I did something similar with one of our reports. I created each individual
report. I then created one report with the subreports. I put each
subreport within a rectangle and I gave each subreport a different name
(right-click on the subreport | properties | general tab | name). I have
page breaks after each rectangle, and each subreport shows up on a different
tab.

|||Thank You Keith. Your suggestions worked perfectly after several hours of
tweeking. I'm hoping you can help me customize it even further. Since each
subreport is a Tab or sheet in Excel, I need to pass the name of the
subreport to Excel so that the tabs or subreport assume the subreport name.
Currently each tab is named the default (Sheet1, Sheet2, etc.). Is this
possible? Also, once the report is deployed, I would like to set up a
subscription. Can you assign a certain filename that you want the
subscription to save the file as or does it assign it the name of the
project? Thanks!!

possible to create a document map (the first worksheeet contains named links

individual from Microsoft on this issue and I believe they are looking into
it. There is no official timeline for the enhancement. There is no

into the product eventually.
Regarding the name of the file, yes you can specify the name of the file and
the path when setting up the subscription.

Reporting Services 2005 with SQL 2000 Database
- Can i use RS 2005 with a SQL 2000 Database? Can i create a report with RS 2005 (with a SQL 2K Database) a show it in a webform? What do i need to install (in the webserver and in the Database server) in order to start designing reports in RS 2005 against a SQL 2K DB?
Regards
Eduardo
Any ideas?
|||
I have used Reporting Services from beta of the 2000 version I think all you have to do is configure the datasource to point to the 2000 database and I would use sql authentication to connect to 2000 instead of integrated so you don't run into double hop security issues. Which means SQL Server 2005 will be configured for mixed authentication, enable remote connection, enable both TCP/IP and Named Pipes, in 2005 you do that in the configuration manager and the surface area configuration tool. In 2000 you right click in the server part of Enterprise Manager and go to properties and click on Network configuration to enable both TCP/IP and Named Pipes. In my last project our database runs in 2005 but is was in 2000 mode and we did not have any issues. Hope this helps.
reporting services 2005 proxy
I am trying to create a RS proxy to use in my web site. I did this successfully with RS2000. I used web matrix to generate the proxy and put the dll and .cs file in the bin directory of the web site, then I just used <%@. import namspace="rsProxy" %>. It worked like a charm. Now I am trying to get the 2005 version working and created the dll's but all I get in my web page is that it couldn't find the namespace.
I also tried adding a web reference through VS 2005. I don't use projects in my web site so in the VS 2005 method it created a folder under my web site called App_WebReferences. In that folder was another named after my server (reference name defaulted it to, say myServerName). Within that folder there are two files: reportservice2005.discomap and reportservice2005.wsdl. I then tried thier examples to create an instance of ReportingService2005 on the page_load event:
reportservice2005.myServerName.reportservice2005 rs = new reportservice2005.myServerName.reportservice2005();
rs.Url = "http://myservername.reportserver/reportservice2005.asmx?wsdl";
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
I get the follwiong error:
CS0246: The type or namespace name 'reportservice2005' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
I tried to import the namespace as I did in 2000 with the same error.
I am trying to read the listchildren and populate a treeview. Any suggestions?
Not sure how VS 2005 is different in this respect, but in any case you could use wsdl.exe to extract a *.cs file from a SOAP endpoint. Then you can just include that file in your project.|||I can get the dll and .cs file to generate. Again, I am not using projects in my web site. Even when I created the web reference in VS it showed all the methods available in the reportingservice2005 and reportexecution2005. I generated it and have tried to implement it using multiple methods but none work. Is there something on the report server or IIS that needs to be setup in order to make a web service available for consumption? I was thinking that maybe during the installation or configuration I missed something. Anyway, I followed the exact same process I used with RS 2000 and it doesn't work.
By the way, thanks for the reply. I'll keep plugging away at it.
|||ok, I got it this far. I can get the auto-list members to display in VS 2005. Here is my code:
WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext;
WindowsIdentity currentWindowsIdentity;
currentWindowsIdentity = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent();
impersonationContext = currentWindowsIdentity.Impersonate();
rsWebReference.ReportingService2005 rs = new rsWebReference.ReportingService2005();
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
rsWebReference.CatalogItem[] items = rs.ListChildren("/", true);
foreach (rsWebReference.CatalogItem ci in items)
{
if (ci.Type.ToString() == "Folder" && ci.Hidden == false)
{
Response.Write(ci.Name);
Response.Write(ci.Path);
}
}
impersonationContext.Undo();
Even though the list members are working, it still gives me the same error:
The type or namespace name 'rsWebReference' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Reporting Services 2005 - Matrix Grouped Report - Calculating Percentages %
Hi,
Could someone help with the following problem, I what to create a cross-tab report of the following data, grouped by Colour:
RAW DATA
Name Colour Sarah Black Kim Red Jane Black Jane Pink Robert Yellow Tom Green Tom Black Billy Black Sarah Black Sarah Black Tom Pink Kim Pink Robert Black
Group Colours by Names Report
I want to produce a Matrix cross-tab report, like the above, within Reporting Services. Any suggestions welcome
Many Thanks,
Radha
This is a pretty basic matrix report. Make sure to add a matrix to the layout design and then...
1. add name to row
2. add color to column
3. add name to data and change the expression to count(name.....)
4. add name to data again but to the right of the first one. You will see a light blue/green line appear and then release your mouse. Now you need to change the expression to formatpercent(count(name...))
This should do it.
|||fsugeiger
Thanks for the above response, but now I am getting 300% for Name, Sarah for the colour Black . I need to show this as the percentage of the "Total by Name" that should = 100%.
For Tom the % should be 33%, not 100% results now:-
Solution to this would be very welcome, and greatly appreciated, from anyone.
Thanks

|||Hi , i m currently building a report that will calculate frequencies using a MATRIX .I have a column that contains multiple groups of answers as you can see in the following screenshot.
In each group of answers i compute the total (calling the subtotal function) .
The problem is that now i want to compute the frequencies for each answer.. So for the first group of answers i want to divide each cell with each corresponding total .
I cant do that at the current moment because the number of answers in each group is diffirent (im using a matrix) and there is no way to know the total because it is computed on the fly.
Is there a way i can do that?
Thnx in advance

It is doubtful that this is a Reporting Services issue. Something else on your environment must have changed. Perhaps a new version of the Framework, a network configuration change, security changes? Can you connect to the server in a browser window? Can you upload reports through Report Manager?|||hi, Brian
Thanks for the reply. No i can not connect to the server in a browser window, or upload reports through the report manager. I have uninstalled it again and installed again. I get the following setup message now (Set up could not initialize the report server. You must manually initialize the report server). Browseing the net i don,t seem to be able to resolve this i hope u can help me.
thanks in advance

Reporting Services 2000 and Visual Studio 2005
I am new to Reporting Services. Is it true that you have to have Visual Studio 2003 installed in order to use the Report Designer to create reports to be published in Reporting Services 2000? Is there a way around this?
Thanks!
you need it. You really only need vb .net std 2003 ($100 retail if you can find it). I looked on ebay and found a couple copies for sale. You could probably get them for cheap.sqlReporting Services 2000
Hi
I have used Reporting Services 2000 to create a template, and works in a mail merge sort of way, creating a delivery note for each order.
The problem I have is, if an order goes over two pages.. I need a easy way to present this, so that the user knows to send two pages.... Obviously, the correct way would be to page it in some way but from what I understand, RS 2000 would page the whole documents (ie all orders) and there is no way of paging in respect to a group (ie order no)
The next option is to have cont. at the bottom of page 1 (if there are more than 1 page), does any1 know how to do this? cos of obviously on the screen it will always be 1 page?
I hope I make some sense... any help would be great....
Thanks in advance :)
Have a textbox in your page footer with text "Contd." and then handle the visibility of the textbox based on the expression: IIf(Globals!TotalPages>1 and Globals!PageNumber <> Globals!TotalPages, false, true)
Shyam
|||Thanks for the reply... but Globals!TotalPages is total number of pages in the report ... which in this case deivery notes for several different orders.... I have a order_no group in my report so that there is a page break after each order...
For example the total number of pages maybe 9, being 8 different orders, 1 being over 2 pages (eg page 3 and 4)... and if the above code would create cont in first 8 pages, while I would only want it on page 3... am i right?
Thanks again...
|||Reporting services does not give the control on what is happening on every page. You can only use constants, globals and parameters in the footers and headers.
If you know how many records occupy 1 page on an average, you can just give a warning in your group header to look for more pages if the number of records in that group exceeds that count. Have a highlighted textbox in your header and have the visibility of that textbox based on an expression something like this:
IIf(Count(Fields!Order_no, "Group1") > 10, false, true)
Shyam
|||i worked a way around this by retrieving the number products in the order and controlling the visibility of the text box with text "cont." by this number....
=IIf(ReportItems("CountProduct").Value
< 26, true, false)
seems to work! But i need to change it so that it works for all pages, n not for just page 2.... what if the order has 5 product lines?
I have come across another problem.. does anyone know how to hide the header footer in all pages apart from page 1 for each order_no?
Thanks alot for all the help so far :)
|||No, you can only control if it should be printed on first and last page of the report. Use PrintOnFirstPage and PrintOnLastPage properties of header and footer to do this.
