Reporting Services 2005 on Vista

Hi All
When I go to http://localhost/reports on my laptop running Vista and SQL
Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2 I recive the following error:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized
Description: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using
the credentials that you supplied.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks
- DavidNot sure if this is to do with you having to be logged in to the machine as
Admin or someone with admin rights.

REPORTING SERVICES 2005 AND VISUAL STUDIO 2003

Hi everyone
I would like to put the following question...
I have a machine with XP Pro SP2, MSSQL 2000, Reporting Services 2000
and V.S. 2003, could I Install Rep Serv 2005 and create reports on an
MSQL2000 Database?
Do I need to Install Visual Studio 2005 ?
Thanks a lot
MiltosRS 2005 comes with a version of VS 2005. You do not have to purchase it.
Just install the BI tools from the SQL Server 2005 disk. RS 2005 can use SQL
Server 2000 db for its object/metadata (as long as you have the SQL Server
2005 license) the biggest issue is installing side by side on the database
with RS 2000. The other issue is IIS. One part of IIS (RS 2000) needs to
stay at 1.1, the other needs to be at 2.0. So you upgrade IIS with 2.0
framework and then you have to get the initial sites back to 1.1.
I believe all of this is possible but it is non-trivial.

I have worked on a project created in VS 2003 Framework 1.1, SQL 2000,
RS2000
The client wanted to upgrade SQL to 2005 but now I have difficulties
running my application which runs on Framework 1.1 to call RS2005 now
using Framework 2.
So to solve it, I downgraded RS back to 2000.|||There was no reason to downgrade RS. There are two ways to be integrating:
URL Integration and Web Services. Both are still available to you from your
application. The web server has to be told which sites are still running
1.1, then the sites used by RS 2005 use 2.0.
Also, his case was that he wanted to have RS 2000 and RS 2005 side by side.
That does not seem to be the case for you. Your situation seemed to be one
of integration which should not be a problem at all.

No URL was specified.

Reporting Services 2000 SP2 fails

I have installed SP2 successfully a number of times before, but always where the Report Server and the Report Server databases were on the same box. This is the first time trying to install the Service Pack where the Report Server is on server X and the databases are on server Y.

When I try to run the SP (on server X), I get the following message:

Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I am logged in using a domain account that is a local admin on both servers (and also the SQL Server startup account on server Y). It is also the account used by the Report Server to connect to the RS databases. The startup account for the Report Server service is 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'.

Hi,

Try to change the SSRS service account to a domain account, and add this account to your SSRS database server and map to your SSRS database. Also, you should add this account to the RsExecRole role.

I hope it helps.

Janos

reporting services 2000 rendering

I am using SQL Server 2000 sp3 and reporting services sp2, and I cannot
get the render method to work for my reports
(http://help.maximumasp.com/SmarterT...cle.aspx?articl

I get serveral errors such as :
1) The best overloaded match has some invalid arguments
2) Argument '8': cannot convert from '<null>' to 'out string'
3) Argument '9': cannot convert from '<null>' to 'out string'
4) Argument '10': cannot convert from '<null>' to 'out

5) Argument '11': cannot convert from '<null>' to 'out
lovelyjubbly.net.discountasp.rs.Warning[]'
6) Argument '12': cannot convert from 'string[]' to 'out string[]'
Can anybody help?
Cheers,
Mike
*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.examnotes.net ***You'll get these errors if you don't pass the arguments properly to the
Render method. Make sure you specify the 'out' keyword for output
parameters and pass strongly-typed parameters instead of 'null' when
required.
If you still have problems, post your code.
Hope this helps.

The first version will generate the errors mentioned in your initial post.
However, your second attempt looks syntactically correct. I copy/pasted
that code and successfully compiled it so you shouldn't get any errors as
long as you've added the RS web service reference to your project.
Did you completely remove the first version from your project?
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by a blank page since your last code snippet
writes the report to a file rather than a browser window. If your code is
part of an ASP.NET application, you could change the format to "HTML4.0" and
render it with the code below.
Response.ClearContent();
Response.BinaryWrite(result);
Response.Flush();
Response.Close();
My RS expertise is limited. You might try posting rendering issues to a
Reporting Services forum.
Hope this helps.

Reporting Services 2000 - Printing Hangs

I am running SQL 2000 SP4 with Reporting Services 2000 SP2. Reporting services hangs when I try to print reports. The reports render okay, and when I click on the print icon, I get the appropriate dialog box. Hi Patrick,

If that is all that is in the log, it looks like the service might be having an issue with rendering the Url. Paste the Url from the print log file into Internet Explorer and see if it renderers an emf image.

Also, you can check the Report Server log files for any exceptions from the rendering. You can find the log directory, Logfiles next to the Report Server installation binaries directory.

Did you change any settings on your server to use Cookieless Sessions? I notice that the SessionID is not stored in the URL.

|||

I have not changed any cookie settings. When I paste the URL into the browser, I get a prompt for credentials, and then an HTTP 401 (Unauthorized) error. I am an Administrator, so my credentials should be valid. The ReportServer log showed the following:

It appears that SSRS is not passing my credentials all of the time, only sometimes. It also appears that multiple requests are made for the same report. Any ideas as to why this might be?

Reporting Services - Export to PDF problem

We are facing some problem while exporting the SSRS (SQL Server 2005 SP2 installed on win2K3) Report to PDF format, problem is when we export report to PDF format all the data after 80 columns gets wrapped to next page which not only increases no. of pages in the reports but also disturbs the report format for example if a report contains only one page and 320 columns of data and if we export it to PDF format then the PDF file will have 4 pages each having 80 columns of date. Has anybody faced the similar issues? would appreciate if you can give solution for this problem or forward any link which discusses the same.

That is a common problem, you are exceeding the width of a sheet of A4. With 80 columns your column width would have to be tiny to fit them all on one page. You can get yourself a little extra width on the page by having it render in landscape mode, just swap over the width/height values under the PageSize parameter for the report. You can also reduce the margin sizes. These techniques will not get you a lot of extra space, if you still need more then the only way to get it is to redesign the report (more tables) or select less data (narrow the parameters or filter the returned data).

Reporting service not starting in SQL Express 2005 Advanced

I've installed SQL 2005 Express Advanced edition on an XP SP2 machine which
already had SQL 2005 Express SP1 installed. I followed the instructions on
deleting (moving) all files in the Template Data directory before attempting
the install - in the only instance I had on the computer (MSSQL.1).
After the install, I noticed that there was another instance (MSSQL.2) which
had the Reporting services folders in it. It didn't have any of the folders
found under MSSQL.1 in it. And of course when checking which instance the
reporting services are using under the SQL Server Config Manager, it says
Instance ID 2.
Also under either the SQL Server Config Manager or the Reporting Services
Config Manager it says that the Service Status is stopped and it won't start
using either manager. It gives a timeout error.
Anyone have an idea why? Is it because of the 2 instances? What else can I
check?
Thanks in advance.I think I may have found the problem. I didn't have a local group ASPNET
established. Once I created this local group, the service fired right up.
