Reporting Services and Directory Browsing?

If I use the URL 'http://my.rportingserver.com/ReportServer', I am presented
with a list of the directory contents, as if Directory Browsing were turned
on for the directory in IIS. At the bottom of the directory listing, is an
indication that this is a Reporting Services function:
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.1314.00
Needless to say, Directory Browsing is turned off in InetMgr. What controls
this directory listing, and can it be turned off ?
Thanks !Report manager is the front for RS. So you will see a listing inspite of
turning off directory browsing. Basically to access all the reports it is
provided if you dont want the listing to be displayed, then remove the access
rights "Read" (I think it is browse) from the configuration.

Reporting Services 2005 Error Creating Report Server Virtual Directory

Hi all,
I have SQL 2005 and WIndows 2003 Server, I am an adminsitrator and have
installed SQL 2005 Reporting Services. However when I got to configure
the reporting services the following happens
When creating a new report server virtual directory on our server, (I
am installing to the default web site and the default virtual directory
name 'ReportServer'.)
1) It creates the virtual directory and says The virtual directory was
created and assigned
2) this is followed by a green tick next to 'Change Secure Connection
Level'
3) This is immediatly followed by a message coming up stating
'ReportServicesConfigUI has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.'.
I cant help feeling that it hasnt finished this correctly as the
'Report Manager Virtual Directory' section is still greyed out and I
cannot enter it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a permission error. In addition, what version of Windows
2003 are you running?
Have you checked the Event Log? If so, what other possible errors do you see?

>|||If I use IE 6 I have no problems. I can access and view parts of the date
with IE7, but the controls do not come up in the reports.

Reporting service 400 bad request error

I have my reporting services installed on a Windows 2003 server. I have my Http://localhost/RepsortServer file directory opens fine.

However, I get this error when I try to access http://localhost/Reports.

Error

The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request. Home

Any red X shows up when you open the configuration tool? Do you reportserver and reports vdirs live in the same application pool?

Try to recreate the report manager virtual directory using the configuration tool.

Reporting server and Active directory authentication

Hi!
Does anybody know how one can prevent users from accessing some
reports on the report server website using active directory? I have an
active directory with all the users and I would like to use this to
enable / disable users from viewing and accessing reports.

Hi Erik,
You should be able to set up securtiy via the report manager website.
Permissions can be set for folders or individually for reports. If
you look at the properties and go to the security tab, you will see
the users who have permission to access the object. To start with, you
should see the user 'BUILTIN\Administrators' as Content Manager.
Here you can add new users with different roles, or create you own
roles.

I've never tried this myself nor have I ever needed to, but I did find an article about connecting to Active Directory which may be of some assistance. If anything, lead you in the right direction.

According to the article, you'll have to set an assembly reference to System.DirectoryServices before connecting. If you're not sure how to do this, open the report properties and select the References tab.

If I try the "Microsoft OLE DB Prodiver for Microsoft Directory Services" I can get a connection. That is, the "Test Connection" works, but then what? I can't seem to create a dataset for the report.. I don't even know if "Microsoft directory Services" is what I'm supposed to connect. I need to get a list of user names based on their UserID's because I can't tell who I've set up in Reporting Services to access reports and folders by looking at their userID's.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial or have step by step instructions on how to report on Active Directory with RS 2005?
