Reporting Services + Vista Home Premium = @!!$#%*

I am just wondering....

Has ANYONE actually gotten Reporting Services to install under Windows Vista Home Premium?!?!

I have gone through every possible fix, KB Article and anecdote and I STILL can't get it to install. Every IIS option is there that should be there.

In all honesty, what was Microsoft thinking? I'll make RS compatible with every OS we offer EXCEPT this one...

What truly bites is now that Visat is out, it is almost impossible to buy a new laptop/PC without it. Looks like it's nuke my new laptop and install XP...great...

What edition of SQL 2005 do you have? Enterprise, Standard and Workgroup edition are not supported on

Windows Vista Home Premium Edition.

If you have a version other than those, what error messages are you getting?

I'm using Enterprise Edition...I was able to install every component of SQL Server 2005 except for Reporting Services...

Is there ANY way to get it installed?

No, not on Vista Home Premium Edition. See this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx

|||Under SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio you will be able to develop reports. IIS must be installed with a specific set of features enabled. Home does not support one of the required authentication features. I am in the same boat. I too am not happy with Vista and Microsoft. We need the non-home edition of Vista.|||

A little clarification on my account ...

Reporting Service; the service side of it, requires hosting via IIS. One can run the RDL's in preview mode in the VS designer. A limited option is to use the 'local' (versus server) option in the report viewer controls.

The service part of Reporting Service in the 2008 release will be able to be hosted in something other than IIS. I would assume because it has been redone using WCF. What the hosting options are I do not know. So, one solution for both of us might be installing 2008 beta version.

Hey there!

Nope, Reporting Services will not install /run in Home versions of Vista. You'll need

the business version or some other higher end version of it. In other words..more

$$$, that in MHO is MS's thinking. I wish you luck, you're on the right track with an XP

install.

Best,
